The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) announced Feb. 9 the launch of digital credentials for Certified Financial Planner professionals. A digital certificate and badge have now replaced paper certificates and annual seals.
The digital credentials provide real-time confirmation of a CFP professional’s certification status. Consumers and others will be able to access a professional’s status through online platforms, such as email signatures, websites, and social media accounts.
Offers real-time assurance
“In the age of digital platforms, social media, and online communications, this digital technology offers consumers real-time assurance that their financial advisor is truly qualified as a financial planner and is in good standing with their professional body,” says Damienne Lebrun-Reid, managing director of standards, FPSC.
The FPSC began its rollout of digital credentials to CFP candidates who qualified for certification following the December 2017 CFP examination. Current CFPs will receive access to digital credentials this spring, after their annual certification renewal for the 2018-2019 year.
