The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) is warning consumers that an individual claiming to be a FSCO employee is using a fake form to try to gain access to personal and banking information.

In a statement issued this week, FSCO explains that the scammer sends an email to advise consumers that they will receive a large sum of money upon completing a "Next of Kin Application Form". The sender of the email goes by the names Thomas Beker, Thomas Bekker, or John Beker, uses the email address thomas.bekkerFSCO@financier.com, and is using FSCO's logo and contact information in an unauthorized manner.

“Thomas Beker, Thomas Bekker, or John Beker are not FSCO employees, the email address is not an official FSCO email address, and the form is not an official FSCO document,” warns the regulator.

Recipients of the email are encouraged to report these incidents to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
