Each year The Insurance and Investment Journal publishes the financial results of the largest life insurance companies in Canada, as collected by MSA Research. This year’s table details the premiums and market share of these companies for the years 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Among the highlights of the table, total industry premium surpassed $60.6 billion in 2016, for an increase of 6.34 per cent in 2016 compared to the previous year.

Combined, the “big three” insurers – Great-West Group, Sun Life Financial and Manulife, held 59.55 per cent of the market share in 2016, up slightly from 58.89 per cent in 2015.
